I am Dr. Nabila Talat, Professor of Paediatric Surgery, currently working as Dean Faculty of Surgery, Dentistry, Allied Surgical & Anesthesia/ Chairperson/Head Department of Paediatric Surgery at University of Child Health Sciences, The Childrens Hospital, Lahore Pakistan. I love children and I love surgery, so the answer was Paediatric Surgery when it came to opting for a career after my medical graduation. Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery is my passion. The Children's Hospital Lahore is the largest tertiary care postgraduate training institution of Pakistan. It is a 1275 bedded tertiary care hospital with round-the-clock emergency, Outpatient, and inpatient services. It has about 43 specialties (21 Paediatric medical, 11 Paediatric surgical, and 11 diagnostic sub & super specialties). Department of Paediatric Surgery is 250 beds dedicated, always almost double/triple occupancy. On average, 20,000-plus surgical procedures are performed here annually. My personal interest is in hepatobiliary, oncological, neonatal and Genitourinary surgery. Recently over the last few years I have developed interest and skills in MIS. Being in a developing country with a huge paediatric population and limited resources, we face constraints but try our maximum to remain abreast with the world's latest knowledge and skills by holding and participating in CME/CPD activities locally as well as internationally.
